Are you giving away your entire collection?
Yes, we are giving away the entire collection, regardless of a comic’s value, even if the value is hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
Are you giving it away all at once?
No. One comic book will be selected at random each week to be given away to one randomly selected winner.
What is in the collection?
Currently the collection consists primarily of mid-60’s to mid 80’s Marvels and DC comic books (primarily Marvels).
Are these all trash comic books you can’t unload on eBay?
No. First off, any comic book can be unloaded on eBay (including “trash” comic books). But this giveaway includes X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Fours, Spider-mans (including some early editions) and other vintage comics.
So these are all premium vintage collectibles?
Sorry, no. An A-Team #2 might pop up the week following the Amazing Spiderman #23. But what is one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Who wouldn’t want that prized cover with Mr. T (I pity da fu!)?
What is in the collection?
We will not be publishing the inventory of the collection, although we reserve the right to change our mind. At this point, we prefer the element of surprise to add to the suspense. The collection currently holds about 800 comic books.
Are you still adding to the collection?
Yes. We are hunting for good deals on premium vintage comics (or other desirable comic books) to add to my collection to be given away.
What condition are the comic books in?
The conditions can vary quite a bit. Most are in good condition (generally speaking – not citing a specific graded condition). Some are in poor condition (again speaking generally). None have been appraised or graded, but that may change with new acquisitions. Any comic book we provide with a history or a graded condition will have that mentioned in the giveaway.
In what order are you giving them away?
They are being randomly selected.
How do I enter?
You must first sign up for a comicbookgiveaway (CBG) account. There is no cost for a basic account. Each week, the profile center will be updated with an entry line for that week's giveaway. Simply enter the word or phrase indicated in the entry line to be entered in that week's giveaway.
If you do not wish to return each week to enter the giveaway or you want to ensure that you are included in every giveaway, CBG offers a premium service for $20/year that includes additional perks besides the automatic chances (see below).
How do you determine the winner?
All participants are assigned a number (or numbers if they enter multiple chances) and a number is randomly selected using an independent online random number generator.
Does it cost to enter the drawing?
No. Anyone can sign up for a free account to enter the drawing. Only one entrant per physical address though. Each giveaway must be entered manually by free account holders. Free account holders are not entered automatically in giveaways each week.
What’s the premium account?
Members may sign up for a premium account to ensure that they are entered automatically each week in the giveaway and receive additional perks available to only premium account holders.
What do you do with the account info you collect?
You can review the privacy policy here [link coming soon]. While we reserve the right to monetize our efforts with marketing (bills gotta get paid), we will never sell, rent, lease, or otherwise share our list of members with a third party. All marketing efforts are at the discretion of CBG and will strive to practice what we consider reasonable marketing (reasonable quantity and only static ads – no pop ups or other in-your-face ads).
What’s the catch? Why are you doing this?
I enjoy comic books. I also enjoy entrepreneurialism. I loved collecting for the sake of collecting when I was younger, but I have family obligations now and I need the space more than I need the collection. This represents a couple of opportunities for me – An opportunity to share comic books and entrepreneurship with my children, an opportunity to reminisce and keep up on comic news with a community of comic book enthusiasts , and an opportunity to share my collection with others. It is also an experiment of mine in Internet marketing. I hope you enjoy the site.
What happens when the collection is gone?
At one comic book per week (currently – subject to change) and with a collection of nearly 800 comics, it will be about 14 years before the collection is exhausted. We will replenish the collection with additional comic books before that happens AND the comics with which we replenish the collection will be only the more desirable vintage comics that members of this site express an interest in. We’ll weed out the less desirable comics as time goes by. Depending on how things go, we might even bundle less popular comic books together in single giveaways to more rapidly bring the collection quality in line with member desires. The better the site does, the better the collection will become.
Can I enter more than one time?
Members can only enter one time for each giveaway, but members have opportunities to accumulate extra chances (see account perks) and enter multiple chances they have accumulated in giveaways for which they have a greater interest to improve their chance of winning that giveaway.
How can I know what my account balance is?
We strongly encourage members to sign up for our newsletter. Included in the newsletter each week will be your personal account balance of extra chances.
How can I accumulate extra chances?
There are a couple ways extra chances can be accumulated:
Do I have to use extra chances all at once?
No. You can use as many or as few extra chances as you would like with each giveaway - or none at all. Use them for those comic books you REALLY want.
Can previous winners enter subsequent giveaways?
Yes! Previous winners are still eligible to win subsequent giveaways. There is no limit to the number of times you can win.
How do I know who won?
You can visit Previous Giveaways to see who won past giveaways. Winners are identified by their username only.
What happens if I win?
You will be notified of your winning with an email and the comic book will be sent to the physical address entered in your account settings.
How do you ship the comic book?
The comic book is packaged with a backing board for reinforcement in a comic bag and sent via the US postal service with signature delivery confirmation.
Are there restrictions on who can enter?
Just the following — all members must provide a valid US address to which I can ship a comic book in the event of winning and only one membership per physical mailing address (and email address as well).
Is there a way to ensure that I am entered in the giveaway each week automatically?
Yes. We offer a premium membership for a nominal annual fee that ensures that you are entered each week in the giveaway. Signing up for the premium membership does not improve your chances of winning a giveaway, except to the extent that you apply extra chances accumulated with the premium membership towards a giveaway.
Do I have to sign up for an account to enter?
Yes. In the event you win, we want to simply send you your comic book. We do not want to have to go through trying to track you down to get your address, etc. The account better ensures that all that is in place and is ready to go when needed.
What is the most valuable comic book in the collection?
Monetarily speaking (they all hold sentimental value to me), the most valuable comic book, not taking conditions into account, is my X-Men #94. Incidentally, I picked that up at a garage sale, decades ago, for $.10! I love early edition comics and have early edition X-Men, Spidermans, Avengers, Daredevils, Ironmans, Fantastic Fours, and others. These are the types of vintage comics I would love to add to the collection as it grows (I love seeing cover prices of $.15 and lower), but I will always defer to the desires of the membership and look for what interests them.
Do you have any other giveaways?
At this time, no, but we have ideas for other giveaways depending on how well this site does.
